The quality of the final audio is dependent on the whole process. If for some reason, you have poorly recorded audio, we can always improve it, but don't think it'll sound the same as if it was properly recorded in the first place.
'Fix in post' is not a good philosophy and won't grant you the best sonic results. It can also affect your budget.

Each medium has different attributes, but digital is known for being very transparent and easy to recall.
Classical music (mainly known for high fidelity) and films, mainly do their audio post-production in the digital realm. You can be very precise and keep the integrity of the recording.
Being huge lovers of realism, we mainly work on the digital realm, preserving the original depth and information of the sound.
To properly listen and to better judge, you need to do it in a treated acoustical place.
Diminuishing the reflections of the room that'll mask the direct signal (signal immited by the studio monitors).
The result will be closer to a flat frequency response, allowing hearing with more definition, which will make the edited sound translate better when played in different rooms and systems.
